Just because there’s a chill in the air doesn’t mean the miles have to stop. Here are a few of our beloved picks for the best cool weather garments to keep you running through the leaves.
Salomon Agile Warm Glove
For such a packable and light weight glove, the Agile Warm sure packs a lot of heat. We like the touch screen finger tip feature for smartphone photos and “I’ll be home late for dinner” texts.
Ice Breaker Merino Wool Pocket Hat
By pocket hat, they mean it stashes in pockets easily, which means when you think you forgot it, you just might find it. We like the reversible two way function to mix up our running wardrobe. The best part is that it’s 100 percent Merino wool.
Osprey Packs Duro Hand Held water bottle
To be honest, we’re not a fan of hand helds, but this tiny sleek design actually straps to your hands so well and nonchalantly you can even tie your shoes without taking it off. There’s a whistle, a remarkably stuffable zippered pocket and a stash sleeve for gels. Nice work, Osprey. Oh yeah, and it holds 20 ounces of H20, great for short runs and no icy evaporative cooling on your back.
Smartwool Phd Shorts
We love these things. A blend of Merino wool and synthetic soft stretch material, the PhD is a two layer short with a comfy inner brief liner that keeps everything in line. A tiny zippered interior pocket nestled in back is perfect for a gel or two, or keys. The best part: the comfort. This is a super pleasant running short that holds up to endless adventures. The fabric looks new after countless safety pinned bib numbers. It’s lived though mountains, deserts, canyons, slot canyons, has survived rough tumbles on jagged scree and even months of gnarly cycles in a decades old washing machine.
The Outdoor Research Helium Hybrid Hooded Jacket
We saved the best for last. We’ve taken this jacket through every kind of weather out there and it’s close to becoming our favorite shell. We like the Pertex Shield- a light hard shell that has worked for us through severe rain storm runs and brutal mountain biking hail. With the Ferrosi fabric under the arms and along the side of the torso, this jacket dumps heats, stretches and moves more like a full soft shell.
