On the run: why the pursuit of mountain running in New Mexico is climbing

Looks like this trail running event is on the rise: In only its second year, it doubled its registration. The Bull of the Woods Trail Run is an eight or 13 mile trail run through dense, rich, forests and into the alpine just outside Taos, New Mexico and held on the Northside at Taos Ski Valley , a family owned mountain parcel that takes your breath away, not only from the beauty but from the elevation – it tops at at more than 12, 000 feet.

Taos is magical. Sunrise is surreal, sunset overwhelming. The sky reaches out forever. Perched between the incomparable and rugged Rio Grande Gorge and majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains, with summits up to 13,000 feet and beyond,  it’s no wonder that trail runners are lured to this landscape. Plus, the natural beauty blends with a southwestern culture all its own to create a one of a kind experience. Food, art, people, history. That’s Taos.
